Things have changed a lot since our great grand-parents day when entire families lived off the land and survived and thrived on fresh vegetables, fruits & grains. Today many of us live on processed food (full of additives), water (added chemicals) and pollution, all of which play havoc with our immune systems. Whilst we are not suggesting that any of us want to go back to the good “ole” days, it has been proven that wheatgrass can help boost your immune system and fight off the toxins.
Most of us can recall our parents droning on about the importance of eating vegetables! Nothing much has changed on that front as we, now the parents, extol the virtues of 5- a-day to our somewhat cynical offspring. Our children's are bombarded and targeted with so much advertisements that they start consuming all those crap. One 30 ml shot of wheatgrass contains the nutritional equivalent of 1 kg of organic green vegetables. You’d have to agree this is a much easier way of counting your 5-a-day intake.
Wheatgrass is the quite simply one of the best forms of nutrition for us humanoids! Wheatgrass “contains all minerals known to man, and vitamins A, B-complex, C, E, l and K. It is extremely rich in protein, and contains 17 amino acids, the building blocks of protein.” But it ain’t accessible if we chew on it (that’s why the good Lord invented cows!). Fortunately we can juice it to extract all that liquid health in a shot that packs a powerful health punch!
We eat animals and they eat wheatgrass. Why not cut out the middle-man and go straight to source? Get it fresh in juice form so that your body can benefit from all of the nutrients and absorb them immediately.
THINK … “ENERGISER BUNNY”….It’s really this simple…we are big batteries. When we’re rocking and rolling we are well alkalised. When we run out of energy we are too acid (think of the battery acid that leaks from your battery when it’s no longer functioning). The dominant Western Diet and Lifestyle is highly acid forming (dairy, meats, stress, high intensity cardio training, sugar, alcohol). And we don’t balance that with enough alkalising foods and activities (dark green leafy veg, meditation etc).
Wheatgrass is PACKED with alkalising minerals. It’s the ultimate dark leafy green. And having just been sprouted, and in the early stage of growth…it’s jam packed with enzymes too. These minerals and enzymes combine to improve the alkalinity of your blood, assist digestion and healing, and boost your energy levels. You won’t notice the alkalinity, but you can feel the improved energy.
Celebrities like Angelina Jolie, Bill Clinton, Kate Moss and Liz Hurley are all drinking wheatgrass juice. Wheatgrass juice is full of nutrients and enzymes and each of the little enzymes plays a very important part in helping the body to repair and rejuvenate.
Have you ever wonder what do animals do when they are sick? Pet owners must have observed that when their pet is sick they chew humble grass from the field. Yes, all animals chew grass to heal. By nature's instinct animals know the cure. Animals chew on grass to treat their diseases. Wild animals never die of serious diseases like diabetes, cancer, heart attack, migraine. These animals find refuge in nature. No wonder the most nutritious food, milk comes from cows which subsist on grass. Amongst all grasses, wheatgrass is the most nutritious & potent if grown, harvested & consumed correctly.
Today, more than 95% of all chronic disease is caused by food choice, toxic food ingredients, nutritional deficiencies, harmful chemicals in our food chain. Rampant use of MSG, aspartame, corn syrup, salt, sugar in processed food industry is causing various diseases including cancer, diabetes, joint pains, acidity etc.
The time tested answer is Drinking Fresh Organic Wheat Grass Juice regularly. One 30ml shot of wheatgrass contains the nutritional equivalent of 1 kg of organic green vegetables & fruits. In order to achieve the maximum benefit from wheatgrass juice, it should be fresh, organically grown, cold pressed. Wheatgrass powder or wheatgrass concentrate is all dead stuff. You should cold press it and drink as soon as possible.
30 ml wheatgrass juice is equivalent to eating 1 kg of organic leafy vegetables & fruits. 30 ml of wheatgrass juice contains 17 essential amino acids, 90 minerals, 13 vitamins, 80 enzymes and its makeup is chlorophyll. It is extremely rich in protein.
Wheatgrass health benefits are total body nutrition in one gulp. Prominent research scientist Dr. Earp-Thomas says that, “1 kg of wheatgrass is the equivalent of 23 kg of carrots, lettuce, celery and so forth.”
If we look at oxygen as a bullet to kill cancer cells, then we should look at wheatgrass as a shotgun blast at treating cancer. The number of ways it deals with cancer is incredible. First of all, it contains chlorophyll, which has almost the same molecular structure as haemoglobin.
Chlorophyll increases haemoglobin production, meaning more oxygen gets to the cancer. Selenium and laetrile are also in wheatgrass, both are anticancer. Chlorophyll and selenium also help build the immune system. Furthermore, wheatgrass is one of the most alkaline foods known to mankind. And the list goes on.
Wheatgrass contains at least 13 vitamins (several are antioxidants), including B12, many minerals and trace elements, including selenium, and all 20 amino acids. It also contains the hormone abscisic acid (also called: dormin, see below), the antioxidant enzyme SOD (Superoxide Dismutase, see below) and over 30 other enzymes, the antioxidant enzyme cytochrome oxidase (see below), laetrile (see its own page), and a whole lot of other nutrients.
* “SOD: superoxide dismutase – which converts two superoxide anions into a molecule of hydrogen peroxide and one of oxygen”
In other words, SOD converts one of the most dangerous free radicals: Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS), into a hydrogen peroxide molecule (which has an extra oxygen molecule to kill cancer cells) and an oxygen molecule.
Now let's talk about cytochrome oxidase.
* “In 1938, the great cancer scientist and researcher Paul Gerhardt Seeger, M.D., revealed that the true cause of the cancerous degeneration of a cell results from the destruction of a specific respiratory enzyme, cytochrome oxidase. In other words, cancer in the cell is caused by disturbance of oxygen utilization or cell respiration.”
But it may be that chlorophyll is the best part of wheatgrass.=
*“In a study reported in the journal Mutation Research comparing the anticancer effect of chlorophyll to beta-carotene, and vitamins A, C and E, chlorophyll was proven to be a more effective antimutagen than any of them.”
I suspect the main reason chlorophyll is so good at dealing with cancer is the oxygen availability it provides.
* “Both chlorophyll (as in wheatgrass juice) and haemoglobin (red blood cells) are molecularly similar. The only actual difference is that the central element in chlorophyll is magnesium and in haemoglobin it is iron. Chlorophyll has the ability to break down poisonous carbon dioxide and release free oxygen.”
One key question about wheatgrass is how long to wait after cutting it before you consume it. Most people, taking their cue from Ann Wigmore, say to take it immediately after cutting and juicing. However, the hormone abscisic acid (ABA) is 40 times more potent four hours after cutting the wheatgrass than it is at the time of cutting. So the question boils down to this: How important is ABA to treating cancer compared to the other anticancer substances in wheatgrass?
Before her death, Dr. Virginia Livingston-Wheeler had a clinic that cured cancer patients. Her vaccine was based on abscisic acid. This is a quote about her clinic.
* “Abscisic acid is a supplement you will not find in a health food store. Based on her research, Dr. Livingston-Wheeler determined that abscisic acid neutralizes the effect of chorionic gonadotropin, the hormone that protects the fetus from being rejected, and she classed it as her prime supplement in treating cancer. Livingston-Wheeler discovered that cancer cells (or the microbes associated with them) produce a substance very similar to chorionic gonadotropin. Abscisic acid is a close relative of Vitamin A. In her book, The Conquest of Cancer; Livingston-Wheeler describes how you can make abscisic acid.”
So what do you do, eat it immediately or four hours after you cut it? Perhaps both. Perhaps when you cut your wheatgrass and juice it, you drink most of it immediately and some four hours later you drink the rest of it.
The reason we get into such a technical issue is because in some cases wheatgrass juice therapy did not work as promised. This may be because the patient drank a lot of tap water with chlorine in it or it may be because abscisic acid is more important than thought or for some other reason. By splitting up the wheatgrass juice into two sessions, you get the best of both worlds.
* “The Wheatgrass Diet [of Ann Wigmore] excludes all meat, dairy products and cooked foods and emphasizes “live foods” such as uncooked sprouts, raw vegetables and fruits, nuts and seeds. The Wheatgrass Diet was developed by Boston resident Ann Wigmore who established the Hippocrates Health Institute which later was renamed the Ann Wigmore Institute (AWI).”
* "Curious to know why wheatgrass juice had been so powerful in healing Eydie Mae Hunsberger of breast cancer, her doctor discovered that wheatgrass contained a plant hormone called abscisic acid. He found, doing tests on laboratory animals, that even small amounts of abscisic acid proved to be deadly to any form of cancer."
